article presents a synthesis about the group of the methodological elements,
conditions of realization, and some results reached in a triennial project
(1997-2000) named Pedagogic/ideological Tendencies in the Recent History
of the Argentine Education (1st Stage). The reseaech had as its main goal
to study, to analyze and to go deeper in the prevalent pedagogic and ideological
trends in the educational history of our country and, to a lesser extent,
in neighboring countries during the last dictatorships. The particular
objectives were regulated in accordance with the different sub-products:
Sub-products 1: Educational Militarization; Sub-project 2: Personalized

Epistemological categories to direct and evaluate knowledge construction processes in the educational environment |
María del Pilar Britos, Silvina S. Baudino, Mónica del C. Ugalde et al. |
Key-Words: epistemology - constructions - paradigms - problematization |
The
investigation outlook focused on an analysis of epistemological categories
that would allow approaching the problem of 'Intellectual Work Methods
and Techniques' in the area of social sciences. Starting from a tracing
of logics and paradigms that articulated the possibilities of intellectual
work practices around an instrumental idea regarding the 'knowledge of
the method,' we attempted to analyze the discourse arrangement of this
diagram, and 'problematize its problematization' thus showing the boundaries
of the expository games of this 'file.' Through the analysis of documents
from the Area, and versions by the students, we attempted an approximation
to knowledge that influence on positioning and conformation of the intellectual
work subjects, placing discourse in a category field that would allow
resignifying their processes and practices, and redefining the reading
codes for them. The idea that directed this investigation was that the
introduction of such categories would open a space for reviewing inherited
models and the specific conditions of knowledge experience in the academic
environment.

Communicative action and virtue: two models for social integration |
Elvio Alcides Tell, Carlos Iglesias, María T.Trachitte |
Key-Words: ethics - values - virtues - social integration |
The
process for rationalization and secularization of the religious images
of the world, which began in modern times, is thoroughly displayed today,
when socialization of individuals is pluralized in different spheres of
action and contrasting particular logics. To face this challenge, three
models of coordination and social integration are proposed: the communicative
action theory by Jürgen Habermas; the theory of virtue by Alasdair
MacIntyre; and Agnes Heller's thinking, with the goal of establishing
contact points between theories. Habermas proposes as mediation form between
spheres of action, the creation of a space for consensus capable of being
acknowledged as valid for everyone, who thus can achieve their interests
coordination only through discourse. This is not enough for the theory
of virtue, which would state that communicative action is feasible if,
and only if, there are apt personal resources (virtues) capable of reconstructing
the unity of behaviors translated into moral commitment, a necessary guarantee
for social cooperation. However, virtue would be preceded by a decision
to attain it, which according to Agnes Heller, would be possible by choosing
oneself as a righteous person.

Academic performance of freshmen and students in the "Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos": The case of students in the Faculties of Engineering and Economic Sciences (1987-1997) |
María M. Colombo, Oscar G. Barbosa, Ricardo J. M. Claucich et al. |
Key-Words: educational statistics - evaluation of learning, university entrance |
The
characteristics of students entering the Faculties of Engineering and
Economic Sciences belonging to the "Universidad Nacional de Entre
Ríos" were analyzed with the objective of establishing markers
for academic performance and continuance in the institution, trying to
point trends, constants, and determining factors, and including the economic-social
features of the students. A group of hypothesis was formulated about the
problems detected related to the specific characteristics of faculties,
and it is expected that the conclusions will contribute to provide a basis
for policies and decisions regarding entrance, evaluation, support to
students and professoriate. We are particularly interested in contributing
from the Math's Department to overcome the problems detected, readdressing
the planning for developing the contents of the discipline, and its forms
of evaluation.

The first newspaper in Concepción del Uruguay |
Julio Moyano |
Key-Words: history - press - journalism |
Here,
we publish new information from the "Archivo Histórico Nacional"
(National Historical File) -the Urquiza and Seguí Files- about
the first newspaper and the first journalist from Concepción del
Uruguay, and their relationship to the foundational moment of the "Colegio
Histórico" (Historical College) of this city, which has recently
celebrated its 150 years of foundation. The possibility of existence of
a newspaper there in 1822, which is supported by some historians, is critically
analyzed and denied. Finally, evidence regarding the way journalism worked
that was proper of that time (beginning of 1850's) is presented, as well
as the role played by editors.
